The golden key

Locks up Winter

and frees

Spring

Under the Wooden Rope Bridge

April 23, 2008

The birds sing a sweet melody,

as I sit by the stream,

wondering what they sing.

The trees do a salsa

whilst birds sing a rhythm,

as the stream flows gently,

under the wooden rope bridge.

Photosynthesis

April 23, 2008

Photosynthesis is the process by which the action of sunlight on chlorophyll in plants produces the substances that keep the plant alive.  Plants make their own food in their leaves.  Sunlight enters minuscule tubes on the surface, water enters through the stem of the leaves and air enters the leaf through pores on the underside.

Things of Springtime

April 23, 2008

When the birds are singing,

A glimmer of light shines in my heart.

They’re all around me,

Collecting twigs for their nests.

When the flowers open,

I feel the warmth of Spring in my heart.

I see the daffodils, they brighten up my garden,

Trumpeting to me, “It’s Springtime!”

When I see the tees,

Sprouting blossom, they seem so happy.

I know that they will get leaves soon,

And no longer will they be bare.

I Will Be Heard

April 23, 2008

Me, the 6th of January

Her, the 6th of July

I’m a bird

Who’s been clutched

By love

And I will

Be heard

For I am

In love.

Birds and Bees

tulip and water drop

I took this photograph this morning as I hunted around the garden for interesting things to photograph in the snow.  This tulip had a bead of water balanced so delicately, like a precious jewel, I couldn’t resist it.

I love this time of year!  Spring is truly springing – despite the covering of snow we had this morning.  This time last year it was roasting and felt more like summer while today it was freezing and felt like winter.  How odd.

Anyway, it is such an exciting time with all the plants putting forth new shoots and the animals once more showing their faces.  A few years ago a pupil made a bird box with his granddad and gave it to me at the end of the school year as a thank you present.  I have to say that it is the best present I’ve ever been given by a pupil, not just because of the thought and effort that went into making it, but because of the pleasure it has given for the past three years as blue tits have nested in it.

Just a few minutes ago I heard the insistent piping of a blue tit, which then darted from the nest box to the willow tree in my garden.  The crest on the top of its head was raised, showing it was excited for some reason.  If you read the following article, you may find out one of the reasons it may have been excited.

Oh!  There it went again!

Brilliant!  I feel like Bill Oddie, sitting in my own dining room and watching these busy little birds.
