Homework News Report

November 30, 2007

Please bring to school on Monday 3rd December or send to the blog.

Imagine that newspapers were

invented 2000 years ago.  A special

baby has been born in a stable in

Bethlehem!

Your task is to write a news report

on the birth of Jesus.  Make your

report formal, like a newspaper.

It should sound as if it is very recent

 news.

Think of a great title/headline for the

 news story.

I expect the report to be at least one

side of A4.  Use lined paper. This

would be an ideal text for the blog.

Fit For Life Course

November 20, 2007

I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to the three parents and grandmother who have come into school to help out and join in with the ‘Fit for Life’ course on Tuesday afternoons.

More parents are very welcome and I would love it if you would like to join in too.  The children are having a fantastic afternoon, with a cookery session delivered by a chef and dietician, and a superb, fun fitness session led by a coach from Writhlington Sports Centre.

Sometimes the parents help out with the cooking and at other times they join in with the fitness session.  It really is great fun.  This is such a brilliant opportunity for you to get into the classroom and experience some of the things that your children are learning.

Simplifying Ratio

November 20, 2007

Today we have been simplifying ratios by dividing numbers by their highest common factor.

Think about the ratio 18:24

18 and 24 both have the factor 6.

18 divided by 6 = 3

24 divided by 6 = 4

So 18:24 is the same as 3:4

If you fancy having a go at simplifying ratios, here are some for you to try.

a.  42:70

b.  36:66

c.  50:200

d.  45:80

e.  18:72

Have fun!

Spell-Caster 1

November 4, 2007

Jim dashed into the class, skidded, fell and bashed his head on a desk.  Poor Jim!

The first sentence has four past tense verbs in it; dashed, skidded, fell and bashed.

‘Fell’ is an irregular verb because it does not end in ‘ed’ when written in the past tense.

The other verbs are regular – they end in ‘ed’ when written in the past tense.

Notice that ‘skid’ becomes ‘skidded’.

Bat becomes batted.

Pop becomes popped.

Stop becomes stopped.

Your first Spell-Casting mission is to write some exciting or interesting sentences which contain regular verbs in the past tense.  Underline or make those words bold.

Spell-Casters Introduction

November 4, 2007

Do ewe find spelling a reel pane?

Do you find spelling a real pain?

Become a Spell-Caster!  No, there’s not a magical cure or spell that I know of to help with spellings – but there are things that we can do to make them easier.  One such thing is practice!

I will post different activities for Spell-Casters to have a go at.  Send your work as a comment but remember to have a good practice at home using pen and paper.

My Week on a Boat

November 3, 2007

My Week on a Boat

by LJ.

Day 1

I was sitting in my house when there was a knock on the door.  My dad anserwed it, it was my nan and grandad.  They asked, “Are you ready?” and I said, “Ready for what?”
Then they asked us to get into their car, so the three of us got in (my brother my sister and me).  We were told that we were going to oxford.
When we had put all of the stuff on our boat we started sailing for a few hours and then moored up for the night and had some food, then went to bed.

Day 2

We got up at 9 o’clock and had breakfast.  After that I got dressed and when evreyone was dressed we cast off and started sailing again.  We went through three locks, then moored up again and went to town.  We bought some bread and soup for dinner.  When we got back, we started cooking the soup.  When we had finished, we played uno and my nan won.  After that we played pontoon.  When we had finished that, we went to the pub and I had chille con carne.  When we had done, we went back and went to sleep.

Day 3

When we had got dressed, we started until we had some dinner and collected some conkers.  We also had to fill up the water tank.  Then we turned around and went sailing again.
When it got dark, we had some tea and then went to bed.

Day 4

We got up and started to sail again and also we got dressed and had toast with jam on.  When we had finished, we played uno again.  After that we had beans on toast with chopped up bacon (delicious), then we ran aground (boat hit ground), so we had to push the boat off from the side of the river and then jumped back on.  As it got dark, we moored up and went to the pub, where I had pasta bake.  When we went back to the boat, we went to sleep.

Day 5

We woke up and then my nan came in and told us that we had to pack and leave, as our holiday was over. So we packed and went home.
